Weatherling 1.4 is here: autumn leaves and new Lings

Autumn leaves. New Lings™. A little more life. Weatherling 1.4 is now on the Mac App Store, and it is included in your existing purchase.

Leaves on the wind

Autumn leaves join rain and snow. They ride the wind across your desktop and settle along the tops of your windows in small, loose piles. Shake a window and they scatter. Let it rain and the water carries them along the edges and over the side. Lings kick them up as they stroll past.

Your weather, your mix

Rain, snow, and leaves each have their own slider now, with Fixed and Random settings. Keep one steady and let another wander, run all three together, or turn two off and enjoy just one. Wind and depth have Fixed and Random settings too, and Randomize in the menu bar shuffles everything at once.

New Lings to meet

New Lings have arrived, each with a personality, animations, and sounds of their own. Who they are is yours to discover, and some are rarer than others. Watch them visit, or turn on Interactive, collect them, and share your score.

Sound, if you want it

Rain and snow now have their own ambience, mixed under one weather volume, and Ling sounds keep a separate slider. Sound stays off until you turn it on, and you choose whether it keeps playing over full-screen apps.

Lighter on smaller Macs

Weatherling 1.4 renders more efficiently, and Automatic quality now chooses a lighter profile on Intel Macs and on Macs with 8 GB of memory or less. Quality has its own section in Settings, with a new Pause on battery power option that stops the effects while your Mac runs on battery and resumes them when it is plugged in.

Now in Japanese

The app, this site, and the App Store listing now speak Japanese, joining English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, Korean, and German.

Fixes and refinements

Version 1.4 also brings smoother weather transitions, more natural falling snow, improved Ling animation, and fixes for audio muting during microphone use and for weather over full-screen apps. The full list is in the release notes. Read the release notes
